Heatwave in Hyderabad: Government Issues Safety Advisory for Public

Telangana is facing intense heatwave conditions, and the weather is expected to get hotter in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad has warned that maximum temperatures will rise further. In response, the Telangana government has issued important guidelines to help people stay safe during this period.

Telangana Heatwave Advisory

The advisory strongly emphasizes the importance of drinking plenty of water. People are encouraged to drink water regularly, even if they do not feel thirsty. Carrying water during travel is recommended, and natural drinks like buttermilk, lemon water, and fruit juices are suggested to stay hydrated.

To maintain proper hydration, the advisory also recommends eating fruits and vegetables with high water content, such as cucumbers, watermelon, and muskmelon.

Choosing the Right Clothing

To protect against the heat, people are advised to wear light-colored, loose cotton clothes. Covering the head with a hat, scarf, or umbrella can also help protect from direct sunlight.

Avoiding Outdoor Activities

The advisory warns against stepping out during peak heat hours, especially between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm. During this time, the sun's intensity is strongest, increasing the risk of heat-related issues. Keeping homes cool and well-ventilated is also recommended.

Foods and Drinks to Avoid

The Telangana government has advised people to avoid drinks that can cause dehydration, such as alcohol, caffeinated beverages, sugary drinks, and carbonated sodas. The advisory also warns against eating oily, spicy, salty, and stale foods, which can worsen heat-related problems.

People are also encouraged to avoid cooking during the hottest parts of the day and to avoid walking barefoot on hot surfaces.

Recognizing Heatwave Symptoms

The advisory highlights the importance of identifying heatwave-related symptoms early. Signs of heat stress may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, muscle cramps, and a high body temperature above 40 degrees Celsius. Severe cases can lead to confusion, seizures, or coma. The government urges people to seek medical help immediately if such symptoms occur.

Medical Support and Preparedness

To manage the effects of the heatwave, the Telangana government has ensured that special beds are available at healthcare centers. Essential medicines, IV fluids, and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) sachets have been provided to healthcare workers to treat heat-related illnesses promptly.

These steps reflect the government's commitment to ensuring public safety as Telangana faces extreme weather conditions. Following these guidelines can help residents stay safe and reduce the risk of heat-related health issues.
