In a significant development championed by Haryana's Home and Health Minister Anil Vij, the historical village of Panjokhra in the Ambala Cantonment Assembly constituency is set to undergo a transformation, earning the distinguished title of "Panjokhra Sahib." The Union Government has granted approval for this change, and the Haryana Government is poised to issue an official notification in this regard.

Home Minister Anil Vij's unwavering efforts have not only paved the way for the renaming but have also spurred various developmental initiatives within the village. Notably, Panjokhra Sahib will soon be seamlessly connected to a 40-kilometer-long ring road under construction in Ambala. This connection is poised to bring about a multitude of benefits for both the local residents and devotees traveling from distant places to experience the village's unique charm.
At the heart of Panjokhra Sahib lies the historical Gurdwara Panjokhra Sahib, a sacred center of reverence for devotees. Dedicated to the memory of the eighth Sikh master, Guru Harkrishan, Gurudwara Shri Panjokhra Sahib occupies a significant place in the cultural and religious fabric of the Ambala district. Situated on the outskirts of Ambala City, the gurdwara holds the memory of Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji's visit in 1663. During his three-day stay, Guru Ji imparted teachings to followers, leaving an indelible mark on the village's spiritual landscape.
The village's name, Panjokhra, is believed by locals to be derived from "panj khar," meaning "five ponds." According to Tejveer Singh, a resident, these ponds, including Nahan Sanghana, Teliyan Da Johra, Ram Talai, Qile Vali Johri, and Gurusar Chhapri, were dug during the time of the Mahabharat Pandavas.
Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji's visit holds a special place in the village's history. During this significant event, Guru Sahib demonstrated his divine knowledge by blessing a deaf and dumb man named Chajoo. Following a symbolic act of placing a stick on Chajoo's head, he miraculously interpreted the Bhagwad Gita. This event transformed a skeptic, Padit Lal Chand, into a devoted follower of Guru Sahib, who spent the rest of his life propagating Sikhism.
The village also boasts a Sarovar (pond), where Guru Ji performed miracles. Legend has it that Guru Sahib blessed the sacred site, ensuring that all wishes of devoted visitors who bathed in the Sarovar would be granted. Furthermore, Guru Ji proclaimed that all donations made at this revered place would directly reach him.

The Union Government's recent approval to rename "Panjokhra" to "Panjokhra Sahib" aligns with the residents' desire to highlight the village's religious importance, particularly its association with Guru Harkrishan. The village's historical roots and its connection to Sikhism make this change a fitting tribute to its cultural heritage.
Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij expressed, "The Haryana government will soon issue a notification again. A proposal to rename Panjokhra as Panjokhra Sahib was passed in the state assembly session and sent to the Centre to mention the name of the village as Panjokhra Sahib in records. Now, no objection has been released by the Union government."
As Panjokhra eagerly awaits its transition to Panjokhra Sahib, the village stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of history, spirituality, and community development-a journey guided by the dedication of its residents and the visionary efforts of leaders like Anil Vij.
