1. Restricted Entry: For three days, the temple remains closed to symbolize the goddess's menstruation. No devotees are allowed inside the temple premises during this time.

2. Reopening of the Temple: On the fourth day, the temple reopens, and a large number of devotees gather to witness this auspicious event.

3. Offering of Prasad: After the temple reopens, prasad in the form of Angodak (water from the spring) and Angabastra (red cloth covering the yoni) is distributed among the devotees.

5. Mahasnan: A ritualistic bath of the deity with Panchagarva is performed, along with other offerings and sacrifices.

Guidelines and Restrictions for Ambubachi Mela 2024

To ensure safety and order during the festival, the district administration has imposed certain restrictions and provided special instructions:

- No VIP Passes: This year, there will be no VIP passes issued. Even VIPs will have to stand and wait in queue like regular visitors.

- Road Closures: The road leading to Kamakhya will be closed from 8 PM onwards. Additionally, the road coming from Pandu Ghat will be closed at night.

- Suspension of Services: Ferry services and vehicular movement from Kamakhya Gate will be suspended during the Mela. The ferry service will be available only on the Pandu to Khamakhya temple Route.

- Regulated Food Distribution: Food and drinking water distribution by institutions will be strictly regulated. No institution will be permitted to distribute food or water at locations of their choosing during the Mela.

- Camps: opposite the temple and at Pandu River ghat, there will be a facility for the camps. But food and utensils are not allowed inside the camps.

These measures are likely in place to manage the large number of devotees expected to attend and to maintain order during the festival.

Additional Guidelines for Visitors

- Temple Timings: Normally, the temple doors open at 7:30 AM and close at 5 PM, with a break from 1 PM to 2:30 PM. During the Mela, the gates will open to the public between 8 AM and 9 AM.

- No Special Tickets Required: There are no separate tickets needed for attending the Mela. Admission is free, but due to the high number of visitors, it's advisable to plan your visit in advance.

- Guided Tours: While not necessary, some travel agencies may offer guided tours or special access passes for a more organized experience.
