The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has asked Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) to design a section of the Gurugram Metro as a double-decker elevated corridor along Old Delhi Road. As a result, the metro will run on a flyover between Jwala Mill T-point and Dundahera, officials said.

Sector 21 Metro Station
Around 1.25 kilometres of the metro line will be built as an elevated track, sharing pillars with an elevated road. Under this double-decker model, one level will be used for the metro trains, while the other will carry road traffic. Officials also said that extra land is being identified for the Sector 21 metro station to support the revised design. The proposal was discussed during a recent review meeting of the Gurugram Metro project at the GMRL office. GMDA has planned an elevated road on Old Delhi-Gurugram Road from Atul Kataria Road to Dundahera, which led to the decision to adopt a double-decker structure for this stretch.
Change of Metro Alignment
Officials explained that the metro alignment was slightly changed from Rao Gajraj Singh Road towards Dundahera to serve more commuters along Old Delhi Road and Udyog Vihar. They also noted that the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) has shifted its alignment from Old Delhi Road to the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, making the revised metro plan more practical.
Double-Decker Metro Project
A similar double-decker proposal has been prepared for the Ghata to Vatika Chowk section on the Sector 56 to Pachgaon metro route along the Southern Peripheral Road and was submitted to the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited last December. GMRL officials said this model has already been successfully used in Nagpur, Jaipur, and Bengaluru, and it helps reduce construction costs. GMDA is also studying other elevated corridors in Gurugram, including routes linking Rajiv Chowk, the railway station, and Atul Kataria Chowk.
