The under-construction Gurugram Metro corridor will have five interchange stations to provide better connectivity with the Delhi Metro, the proposed Bhondsi-Railway Station Metro corridor, and the Namo Bharat network. The announcement was made by officials of Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) after Managing Director Dr Chandrashekhar Khare reviewed the progress of the project.
Gurugram Metro's Interchange Stations
According to GMRL, the five interchange stations will be located at Millennium City Centre, Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector 5 and DLF Cyber City. The Millennium City Centre station will connect with the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro, making travel between Gurugram and Delhi more convenient. Subhash Chowk and Sector 5 stations will connect with the proposed Bhondsi-Railway Station Metro line, while Hero Honda Chowk and DLF Cyber City will provide interchanges with the Namo Bharat rapid rail network.
The details were shared after Dr Khare inspected the Old Gurugram Metro project on Monday. During the visit, he reviewed the progress of construction and also discussed plans for double-decker metro stretches at Krishna Chowk near Palam Vihar and near Sector 21.
How will the Interchange Stations Benefit Passengers?
During the inspection, Dr Khare directed officials to ensure that the Millennium City Centre interchange station is designed to provide smooth and hassle-free movement for passengers travelling between Gurugram and Delhi. He said the integration of the two metro systems should offer commuters a seamless travel experience.
Dr Khare also visited the casting yard, where metro construction materials are prepared, and instructed officials to follow all safety guidelines during the construction work. He asked GMRL to work closely with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL) to speed up the construction of the reversal track from Millennium City Centre Metro station towards Vyapar Kendra Road.
GMRL has also directed the contractor to speed up construction between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk by coordinating with agencies such as NHAI, HVPNL, DHBVN and GMDA. Officials have also been instructed to shift utilities such as water pipelines, sewer lines, gas pipelines, electricity cables and stormwater drains before Phase 2 construction begins between Sector 9 and Cyber Hub.
