Heavy rainfall has once again affected many parts of Gujarat, causing major disruptions to daily life and traffic. Several roads have been flooded, making travel difficult in many areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely to continue across large parts of
the state until tomorrow. The IMD has issued a red alert for 13 districts in Central and South Gujarat, warning people to stay alert as very heavy rainfall is expected. Ahmedabad, Anand, Aravalli, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Botad, Gandhinagar, Kachchh, Khera, Mahesana, Morbi, Patan, Sabar Kantha, Surendranagar and Vadodara districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall.
Gujarat Rain Alert
Since Saturday morning, continuous rain has caused waterlogging in many places, especially in the districts of Surat, Kheda, and Anand. Flooded roads have slowed traffic and created problems for commuters. According to officials, Umarpada in Surat received nearly 8 inches of rain, while Borsad in Anand district recorded more than 6 inches of rainfall by 12 noon.
Rescue and evacuation work is underway in the affected areas. The state government has deployed 17 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 33 platoons of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and 6 Army columns to help people and manage the situation.
More than 720 people have already been shifted from low-lying and flood-prone areas in Vadodara, Surat, Anand, and Narmada districts to safer places. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as rivers continue to rise due to the heavy rainfall.
The increasing water levels have also put 21 dams across Gujarat on high alert, with officials keeping a close watch to prevent any emergency situation.
Advisory for Residents
The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea until August 2, as rough sea conditions and strong winds could make fishing activities dangerous. Authorities have urged people living in affected districts to avoid unnecessary travel, follow weather updates, and cooperate with local officials. Emergency teams remain on standby as heavy rain is expected to continue over the next 24 hours.
