Namma Metro Phase 3: Goraguntepalya and Mysuru Road to Be Taller Than Jayadeva Hospital Station

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has announced that two upcoming Namma Metro stations under Phase 3 will surpass the Jayadeva Hospital station, currently the tallest metro station in India. These new stations, Goraguntepalya and Mysuru Road, will have rail levels of 33 metres and 32 metres. In comparison, the

Jayadeva Hospital station, which serves as an interchange between the Yellow and Pink Lines, stands at 29 metres above rail level and around 38 metres above roof level.

Namma Metro Phase 3 Corridor

Phase 3 of Namma Metro includes two major corridors. The Orange Line will stretch 32.3 km from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura along the Outer Ring Road. The Silver Line will run for 12.15 km from Hosahalli to Kadabagere through Magadi Road, and both lines will feature more than 37 km of double-decker structures, where the metro line will be built above a flyover. Similar to Jayadeva Hospital, the Mysuru Road station will have six levels but will still stand taller in terms of rail height.

Shifting of Interchange

A senior BMRCL official confirmed that both Goraguntepalya and Mysuru Road stations will indeed be taller than Jayadeva Hospital. Earlier, the detailed project report had planned the Green-Orange interchange at Peenya. However, this would have required constructing very tall structures up to 46.5 metres due to steep gradients. To avoid this, the interchange was shifted to Goraguntepalya, reducing the alignment by 200 metres, saving ₹669 crore, and lowering the number of portal beams needed.

Phase 3 Stations

Other stations in Phase 3 will also be built at elevated levels. Sumanahalli Cross, which serves both the Orange and Silver lines, will have a rail height of 26 metres with stacked platforms. JP Nagar will have a rail level of 22 metres and will connect through a foot overbridge. BMRCL is expected to invite tenders for Phase 3 civil works soon, with the project targeted for completion by 2031.
