In an exciting step to boost adventure tourism and make the stunning Himalayan landscapes more reachable, the tourism department of Uttarakhand has made an important decision. They have removed the fees that Indian mountaineers used to pay, creating a buzz among adventure enthusiasts. This change means that now, people can trek in the state's mountains without the burden of fees.

This decision affects how Indian climbers approach peaks up to 6,500 meters. Before, they had to pay Rs 3,000, but now this fee is completely waived. However, foreign nationals will still have to pay Rs 20,000 for the same privilege. For those aiming for peaks between 6,500 to 7,000 meters, Indian climbers won't need to pay the Rs 4,000 fee anymore, while foreign climbers will still need to pay Rs 25,000. Climbers aiming higher than 7,001 meters will no longer need to pay the Rs 6,000 fee for Indians, while foreign climbers will continue to be charged Rs 40,000.
Uttarakhand is famous for attracting adventure lovers from India and around the world. They want to conquer challenging peaks like Nanda Devi, Panchachuli III, Trishul III, Mukut Parbat, Bhagirathi III, and Gangotri III. Other peaks like Satopanth, Shivling, Srikantha, Vasuki Parbat, Kamet, Hathi Parbat, Dunagiri, and Chaukambha IV (routes 1 and 11) also captivate the hearts of many climbers.
In this new system, the tourism department will now take care of the fees that were previously managed by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation and the forest department. The forest department has kindly decided to waive its part of the charges, which means Indian mountaineers can now explore these amazing landscapes without worrying about the cost. This positive change has been confirmed through an official announcement.
Earlier, Indian mountaineers had to pay fees to explore the Himalayan peaks. These fees used to go to the forest department and the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF). However, things have changed now, as the tourism department has taken the responsibility of covering these fees. This is a big step forward that makes exploration and adventure much more accessible.

Despite this relaxation in fees, Indian mountaineers will still need to follow the usual process. They have to submit their applications and get the necessary approvals from the tourism department before starting their treks. While in the past, the forest department managed permissions, now it's the tourism department that handles this responsibility.
With this brave decision, Uttarakhand is not just encouraging adventure but also making it easier for people to explore its breathtaking mountains. As these peaks become more accessible, a new era of mountaineering and exploration is on the horizon. This will attract a wider range of adventure enthusiasts to experience the beauty of Uttarakhand's mountainous terrain.
