Uttar Pradesh is set to witness a major boost in its road infrastructure with the construction of the 380-kilometre Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway. This expressway, developed under the Green Highway Policy, will connect Noida, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur, significantly reducing travel time and improving connectivity. Once completed, the journey between Ghaziabad and Kanpur will take just 5 hours and 30 minutes, compared to the current travel time of over eight hours. This project is expected to ease traffic congestion and promote economic growth in the region.
Connecting Nine Districts
The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway will pass through nine districts in Uttar Pradesh: Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Unnao, and Kanpur. The improved connectivity will help businesses, boost tourism, and provide better travel options for residents. By linking these districts, the expressway will create new opportunities for development and strengthen Uttar Pradesh's transportation network.
Expressway Features and Completion Timeline
The expressway is expected to be completed by 2026. Initially, it will have four lanes, but future plans include expanding it to six lanes to accommodate increasing traffic. Designed as a greenfield expressway, it will feature tree plantations and eco-friendly measures to align with the Green Highway Policy. Linking to Key Highways and Airports
A major highlight of the project is its planned connection to Jewar Airport in Noida, making travel even more convenient for passengers. The northern section of the expressway will be linked to National Highway 9, while the southern end will connect to the 62.7-kilometre Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway. These connections will strengthen Uttar Pradesh's road network, making it easier for people to travel between cities and boosting overall mobility.
