From 15 February, Airlines To Reimbursed 75% If Tickets Are Downgraded, Know Details

In response to denied boarding, aircraft cancellations, and flight delays, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) modified its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR). Know details

In response to denied boarding, aircraft cancellations, and flight delays, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) modified its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) regulations on the amenities that airlines must offer to passengers.

The change will allow the airline to reimburse the passenger who is degraded and transported in a lower class than that for which the ticket was purchased by them.

The aviation officials stated that the new rule was made to support the rights of passengers whose tickets were downgraded by the airlines. DGCA has amended its Civil Aviation Requirement Section-3, Series M Part IV Facilities to be made available for passengers rights by airline companies due to denied boarding, delays in flights and cancellations.

Airline rule

The airlines will be required to reimburse 75% of the ticket price, including taxes, to travelers whose domestic flight tickets were downgraded, in accordance with the new standards set by the aviation authority.

The compensation amount for downgraded international tickets will range from 30 to 75% of the original ticket price. Depending on the flight's distance (at least 1,500 kilometres), this may also include taxes.

Airline rule

The amount will be 50% inclusive of taxes if the flight is between 1,500 & 3,500 kilometres in distance, according to the DGCA. For flights that go more than 3,500 kilometres, 75% of the ticket price, including taxes, will be reimbursed.

In response to complaints from passengers that their airline tickets booked for a specific class were downgraded, the aviation authority has decided to change the rules. According to a senior DGCA official, these rules will take effect on February 15.
