This phase covers a 5.39 km stretch from Mandale to Diamond Garden in the eastern suburbs. Officials of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said the inspection is

the last step before the line can be considered safe for passenger use. If approved, this metro line will be opened to the public by the end of September.

The CMRS, which comes under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, is responsible for ensuring safety standards across metro projects in India. Following the inspection, a checklist of compliance will be shared.
• Any necessary corrections will be made before a final approval for passenger services is granted.
• This will be the second inspection, as an earlier review was conducted a few months ago.
• The first phase has already undergone trial runs and includes five stations Mandale, Mankhurd, BSNL, Shivaji Chowk, and Diamond Garden.
It forms part of the larger 23.6 km Line 2B, which will eventually run from Mandale to D N Nagar in Andheri, covering 20 stations in total. The corridor is expected to ease road congestion and serve over 10 lakh commuters daily once fully functional.
Moreover, the second phase of Metro 2B from Diamond Garden to D N Nagar work is already 88% completed. After finishing the line with the depot being already ready, work on stations, electrical work will begin and commercial operations for this phase are likely to start by early 2026, as per the sources.
The MMRDA has considered the inspection as a major milestone, expanding Mumbai's metro network and offering faster, more reliable transport to its residents.
