The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has implemented significant changes to streamline the EPF claim process, aiming to enhance flexibility and convenience for all members. As reported by the Economic Times, these changes encompass the extension of auto-settlement, multi-location claim settlement, and expedited death claims. Let's delve deeper into these recent EPF modifications.

Auto-Settlement Feature
On May 13, 2024, EPFO announced a new auto-settlement feature for specific claims. Under this provision, claims related to housing (under Rule 68B), education, and marriage (under Rule 68K) up to Rs 1,00,000 will be automatically processed without requiring human intervention. This initiative aims to accelerate processing times and offer greater convenience to EPF members.
Multi-Location Claim Processing
To expedite EPF claim settlements within prescribed timeframes, EPFO has introduced a multi-location settlement framework. This approach seeks to minimize delays by distributing the workload across various locations nationwide. By replacing the existing geographical jurisdiction structure, this new framework enhances productivity and expedites claims processing.
EPF Death Claims Sans Aadhaar Seeding
In a bid to simplify the death claims process, EPFO now permits physical claims without the need for Aadhaar details. This temporary measure assists in cases where Aadhaar details are incorrect. Approval from the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) is mandatory, with verification of the deceased member's details and their relationship with the claimants. These provisions are applicable only when the deceased member's UAN details are accurate but Aadhaar database details are incorrect.
Relaxation on Mandatory Upload of Cheque Leaf
Effective May 28, 2024, EPFO has relaxed the mandatory requirement of uploading cheque leaf images or attested bank passbooks for certain cases. This relaxation aims to expedite online claim settlements and minimize claim rejections due to delayed image submissions. It applies only to eligible cases, verified through online verification of Bank KYC by the relevant Bank/NPCI, employer verification of bank KYC using DSC, and UIDAI verification of seeded Aadhaar numbers.
These changes by EPFO are aimed at simplifying and expediting the EPF claim process, ensuring greater efficiency and user-friendliness. The auto-settlement feature facilitates faster processing of housing, education, and marriage-related claims. The multi-location claim processing framework reduces delays and enhances productivity by distributing workload across multiple locations. Permitting death claims without Aadhaar seeding provides relief to bereaved families. Lastly, the relaxation on mandatory image uploads for certain cases speeds up online claim settlements, reducing the risk of claim rejection.
These EPFO measures aim to improve the overall experience for EPF members, making it easier and quicker to access their funds when needed.
