About Pench Tiger Reserve
Pench Tiger Reserve stands as one of India's oldest and largest reserves, covering a vast 758 sq km. It began as a wildlife sanctuary in 1975 and received tiger reserve status in 1992. The reserve gets its name from the Pench river, which flows through and divides it into East Pench (Madhya Pradesh) and West Pench (Maharashtra). It's renowned for its rich biodiversity and its connection to Rudyard Kipling's classic novel, "The Jungle Book."
Best Time to Visit Pench Tiger Reserve
The ideal time to visit Pench Tiger Reserve is during the winter season, from November to February. This period boasts pleasant and cool weather, attracting migratory birds to the reserve. It's an excellent time for admiring the scenic views of the Pench river, exploring the forests, and spotting various animals and birds. Winter is also perfect for photography and camping.
The summer season, from March to June, is another good time for a visit, especially if you're keen on seeing tigers. Though the temperatures can soar, tigers are more likely to venture out to water sources. Additionally, the summer season is less crowded, ensuring a more serene and exclusive safari experience.
On the flip side, the monsoon season, lasting from July to September, is not a suitable time to visit. During this period, the reserve is closed due to heavy rainfall, which can make the roads slippery and muddy, and increases the risk of flooding and landslides.
