The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has introduced special discounted monthly passes through its MetroConnect3 mobile app, becoming the first metro system in India to offer a pass facility completely through a smartphone application. This new feature was launched on Friday and is aimed at making travel on Metro Line

3 easier and more affordable for regular commuters.
Mumbai Aqua Line Passengers
Passengers using the Aqua Line can now buy trip-based passes at discounted rates. The MMRC is offering a 15% discount on 60-trip passes and a 10% discount on 45-trip passes. These passes are designed for people who travel frequently and want to save money on their daily commute.
Reason Behind Mumbai Metro's Initiative
According to a senior MMRC official, the main idea behind this initiative is to make daily metro travel more budget-friendly and to encourage contactless, digital ticketing. Using the MetroConnect3 app, commuters can quickly buy, store, and use their metro passes directly on their mobile phones. This removes the need for physical tickets or smart cards and helps speed up the entry process at stations.
MetroConnect3 App
At present, the discounted pass service is available only through the MetroConnect3 mobile app. However, MMRC plans to expand the pass facility to National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC) in the future so that more passengers can access it easily.
The MetroConnect3 app can be downloaded on both Android and iOS devices, allowing a wide range of commuters to benefit from these digital passes. The new feature is expected to encourage more passengers to switch to digital ticketing and reduce reliance on traditional paper or plastic tickets, ultimately improving convenience and reducing waiting time at ticket counters.
