Varanasi, the sacred city on the banks of the Ganga, is gearing up for Dev Deepawali, a festival of lights and devotion that celebrates the victory of Lord Shiva over the demon Tripurasura. Celebrated on Kartik Purnima, Dev Deepawali will take place this year on November 15. Each year, the festival brings a magical glow to the city as thousands of lamps light up the ghats, creating a truly serene and beautiful atmosphere.

This year's celebration promises to be even more special, with over 17 lakh lamps set to illuminate 84 ghats, kunds, ponds, and temples across the city. According to Hindu belief, on this day, the gods themselves descend to Varanasi to join in the celebrations, honoring Lord Shiva. This tradition has made Dev Deepawali a major attraction, drawing visitors from all over India and the world to experience its beauty and spirituality.

3D laser Show Timings

District Magistrate S. Rajlingam is leading preparations, which include a special laser show at Chetsingh Ghat. 3D laser show scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. and repeat throughout the evening at 5.30 pm, 7 pm, 8 pm, and 8.45 pm, this 25-minute 3D laser projection will feature a laser light and sound show, adding a unique visual treat for visitors. The local administration is working to make this year's festival unforgettable for all.

Adding to the festival's spiritual energy, a special worship ceremony for Baba Vishwanath is planned. His shrine will be decorated with flowers and colorful lights, especially at Lalita Ghat and Ganga Dwar, creating a heavenly ambiance. Additionally, the Vivekananda Cruise has been exclusively reserved for special guests who will enjoy a grand view of the Dev Deepawali celebrations, including the laser show and fireworks at Namo Ghat.

Ghats To See Special Aarti

In a first for Varanasi, 101 women will lead the Ganga Aarti at Rajghat, an initiative aimed at celebrating women's participation in religious traditions. The aarti will feature tableaux showcasing the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev and Gautam Buddha, as well as a tableau sharing a social message, enriching the cultural and spiritual experience of Dev Deepawali.

Celebrity Performances

Performances by famous artists Manoj Tiwari and Kalpana Patwari will also take place at Sheetla Ghat and Namo Ghat, respectively, as part of the festivities. These performances are expected to attract large crowds, adding to the joy and energy of the celebration. More than 10 lakh tourists are expected to visit Varanasi for Dev Deepawali, joining locals in lighting lamps across the ghats, ponds, and temples, creating a collective spirit of devotion and community.

Traffic Rules

To ensure everyone's safety, water police and ambulance services will be present around the cruise area, part of a comprehensive plan to manage the large number of visitors smoothly. Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal has held meetings with senior officers to review security preparations. On the day of Dev Deepawali, vehicle movement will be restricted on key routes, including Maidagin to Godowlia, Assi, Bank of Baroda, and Lanka. Boats from nearby districts will be stopped at Adikeshav Ghat and Garwa Ghat, and vehicle numbers on certain routes will be limited to reduce congestion.

This year, Dev Deepawali will also pay tribute to India's armed forces, police, and PAC personnel who gave their lives for the country. Dashashwamedh Ghat, one of the oldest and most respected ghats, will be decorated with Indian and foreign flowers and a large bell installation. A special tableau featuring a 108 kg Ashtadhatu (eight-metal) idol of Mother Ganga will be anointed with milk, symbolizing purity and dedication to the river's sanctity.

In another spiritual addition, 21 young priests and Damru bands will participate in the Ganga Aarti, enhancing the event with sacred recitations. Kishori Raman Dubey, founder of Gangotri Seva Samiti, emphasized the festival's dedication to India's protectors, blending devotion and patriotism.

Dev Deepawali in Varanasi is more than a festival; it is a powerful display of faith, tradition, and unity, drawing both the divine and the devout into an extraordinary celebration of light, beauty, and spirituality.
