Delhi Weather Update: Light Rains Likely Today, but Heatwave to Intensify from this date

As the scorching heatwave tightens its grip on Delhi, relief seems imminent as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light rain on Monday, April 15. Over the weekend, sporadic light rains offered a brief respite from the intense heat that has persisted since April began.

Delhi Weather Heatwave to Intensify

Delhiites can anticipate cloudy skies on Monday, accompanied by occasional light rain or drizzle and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph, as per the regional meteorological center in New Delhi. April 11 marked the hottest day of the season for Delhi, with temperatures soaring to 39.1 degrees Celsius, four degrees above the season's average.

Looking ahead, the IMD's weather forecast predicts continued cloudy skies throughout the week, with the possibility of sporadic light rain or thunderstorms on April 19 and 20. Partly cloudy conditions are expected to prevail until April 21 in the national capital.

Sunday saw parts of Delhi experiencing light rainfall, resulting in a drop in the maximum temperature to 32.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 21.4 degrees Celsius. For Monday, the IMD anticipates maximum and minimum temperatures around 33 and 20 degrees Celsius, respectively.

While no rain is expected from Tuesday to Thursday, partly cloudy skies and strong winds are on the horizon. However, another round of light rain and thundershowers is forecasted for Friday and Saturday. Moreover, temperatures are set to rise from Tuesday onwards, with the maximum temperature likely reaching 38 degrees Celsius by Friday.

The recent rainfall in Delhi has been attributed to an active western disturbance over northwest India, according to the IMD.

The prospect of light rain on Monday brings hope to Delhiites amidst the relentless heatwave, offering a much-needed break from the soaring temperatures. Residents are advised to stay informed with weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and comfort during this period.
