The Delhi to Kashmir Vande Bharat Express is set to redefine travel between India's capital and the beautiful region of Kashmir. Scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2025, this high-speed train will connect Delhi to Kashmir through the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). This ambitious project aims to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost tourism.
One of the most remarkable features of the Vande Bharat Express is its route across the Chenab Rail Bridge, the tallest railway bridge in the world. This engineering marvel is taller than the Eiffel Tower, standing at an impressive height of 359 meters and stretching 1,375 meters in length. The bridge symbolizes India's technical achievements and is a key highlight of the USBRL project.
The train will offer a comfortable journey with 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches, and one First AC coach. Passengers can expect a smooth and affordable ride, with ticket prices ranging from ₹1,500 to ₹2,100. Stops will include popular destinations such as Jammu and Mata Vaishno Devi, making it convenient for travelers and pilgrims alike.
The USBRL project covers a distance of 272 kilometers, with only a 17-kilometer stretch between Katra and Reasi left for completion by December 2024. Railway authorities are conducting thorough inspections to ensure safety and readiness before the grand launch. Once operational, the Vande Bharat Express will significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Kashmir, offering a seamless connection.
This new service is expected to bring a tourism boom to Kashmir, making it easier for visitors to explore its scenic beauty and cultural heritage. Additionally, the train will support the faster transportation of fresh produce, flowers, and other goods from Kashmir to Delhi, benefiting local businesses and contributing to the region's economy.
Plans are also underway to introduce 32 more trains connecting various destinations, including New Delhi, Chennai, Kanyakumari, and Jammu and Kashmir. The Vande Bharat Express will initially run with fewer coaches, designed to navigate the challenging terrains of the route.
The USBRL project showcases India's engineering expertise with its 38 tunnels, the longest spanning 12.75 kilometers, and 927 bridges. This network reflects the government's dedication to advancing rail infrastructure and improving regional connectivity.
The fares for the Delhi to Kashmir Vande Bharat Express are estimated to range from ₹1,500 to ₹2,100, offering an affordable yet comfortable travel option for passengers. The train will be equipped with 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches, and one First AC coach to cater to diverse passenger preferences.
