Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and other parts of the Delhi-NCR region are expected to experience thunderstorms and moderate rainfall on June 12, 2026. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and nearby areas may witness strong thunderstorms, gusty winds, and even hailstorms in some places.

Delhi Yellow Alert
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi and predicted cloudy skies throughout the day. Light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are likely across the national capital. Wind speeds may reach 60-70 kmph and could gust up to 80 kmph in some areas.
Delhi to Experience Rainfall & Thunderstorms
According to the forecast, the first spell of light rain is expected during the morning and forenoon hours. This rainfall may be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds blowing at 40-50 kmph, with gusts touching 60 kmph. Another spell of light rain and thunderstorms is likely during the afternoon or evening, with similar wind speeds and weather conditions.
Neighbouring cities, including Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad, are also expected to have partly cloudy skies along with one or two spells of rain and thunderstorms during the day. The IMD has indicated that weather conditions may start improving after June 15.
Reason behind the Weather Change
Weather experts say that the sudden change in weather is due to a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and nearby regions. This system has increased atmospheric instability over northwest India, including Delhi-NCR. As the system becomes stronger, thunderstorm activity is expected to increase.
The rainfall and cloud cover are also likely to reduce temperatures over the next few days, providing relief from the hot summer conditions and making the weather more pleasant across the region.
