Delhi Metro Rush: How to Bypass Crowds During Today’s DTC Bus Strike

Delhi’s DTC bus strike is pushing extra rush onto the Metro on September 25. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has extended last week’s arrangements. It is adding extra trains, staff and ticket counters. The corporation says these will be deployed during peaks based on demand. “The additional ticketing arrangements and train services have been deployed,” the corporation said. Plan extra time for security lanes and transfers.

Pressure will build first at interchanges that funnel multiple corridors. Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Hauz Khas and Mandi House top that list. Central Secretariat also strains when queues spill from Yellow and Violet. DMRC has operationalised around 17 ticket office machines and deployed over 40 staff. These are spread across the network to ease queues and speed frisking. Expect intermittent entry regulation at peak times to prevent platform crowding.

Delhi Metro Strike Update: Extra Trains and Routes to Avoid Crowds on September 25, 2026

DMRC peak-hour plan and Delhi Metro frequency today

Recent days show a steady ramp-up as strike-driven demand persisted. On September 16, eight extra trains and 20 additional trips ran. September 17 saw 32 extra trips as boardings hit 82.44 lakh. From September 18–20, eight extra trains continued while trips scaled. On Monday and Tuesday, 10 additional trains delivered 44 and 39 extra trips. DMRC’s baseline peak headway is about two minutes forty-four seconds. Standby rakes compress waits on core corridors when crowding spikes.

Alternate routes via Pink and Magenta during DTC bus strike

Skirt Rajiv Chowk by switching Blue–Violet at Mandi House. Use Yellow–Pink at Dilli Haat INA for south–central hops. For Yellow–Blue, take Yellow–Magenta at Hauz Khas, then join Blue at Janakpuri West. Pink Line’s ring helps bypass central choke-points via Lajpat Nagar or Azadpur. Travel slightly before morning peaks or after 7 pm when possible. These swaps usually trim queues without adding long detours.

Keep a 15–20 minute buffer for first or last trains, and watch gate advisories. DMRC earlier placed many extra services between 8 am and 8 pm. Expect similar demand-led tweaks today, with standby trains during peak surges. Follow announcements, DMRC Sarthi, and Official DMRC on X for real-time updates. Delhi Traffic Police advisories can flag bottlenecks that affect last-mile links.
