Bengaluru Metro's Blue Line: 72% of Civil Work has been Completed, Aims to Complete by the end of 2027

Bengaluru's 58-km Blue Line Metro corridor, connecting Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), has seen 72% of its civil work completed, and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) aims to complete the entire corridor by the end of 2027.

The 19-km Silk Board-KR Pura section is expected to be the first part of the Blue Line to become operational. It is targeted to open by the end of 2026, with trial runs planned from October. However, some work still needs to be completed before passenger services can begin. This includes providing depot connectivity to Baiyappanahalli and completing civil works at important stations such as Silk Board, Iblur and Marathahalli.

KR Pura-Hebbal Section Faces Delays

The KR Pura-Hebbal stretch remains one of the more difficult parts of the project and has been delayed by several issues, including land acquisition, tree clearance, traffic congestion, traffic police clearances and labour shortages. Construction on this section was also stopped for several months after an under-construction pier collapsed in January 2023, killing a woman and her two-and-a-half-year-old son.

Hebbal-KIA Section

The Hebbal-KIA stretch is expected to open by mid-2027, according to the latest timeline shared by Bengaluru development minister Krishna Byre Gowda. Once completed, this metro corridor would benefit passengers by allowing them to commute easily to and from Kempegowda Airport.
