Early on Friday morning, Delhi experienced heavy rains along with thunderstorms and strong winds. This sudden weather change caused major disruptions at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the country's busiest airport. Due to the bad weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the city. The heavy rain also caused waterlogging and uprooted trees in several parts of the city, affecting the daily life of many people.

Flight Delays and Diversions
Because of the bad weather, flight operations at Delhi Airport were heavily affected. The airport handles around 1,300 flights every day, and more than 200 flights were delayed on Friday. According to Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the airport operator, three flights had to be diverted. Two of these were sent to Jaipur, and one was sent to Ahmedabad.

The problems began early in the morning. DIAL posted an update on X (formerly Twitter) at 5.20 am, saying that some flights were delayed due to the storm. A later update at 7.25 am informed that the storm had passed but delays were still continuing. By 8.20 am, DIAL announced that normal operations were starting again, although some issues still remained. The airport also said that their teams were working hard to reduce inconvenience for passengers.

Airlines Also Affected
Several airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, reported issues because of the weather. Air India said that the bad weather in North India had delayed and diverted some of its flights. The airline added that it was doing everything it could to fix the problem quickly. IndiGo also mentioned that the thunderstorms and rain had disturbed their flight schedules, but they hoped things would get back to normal soon. SpiceJet said that air traffic control (ATC) in Delhi was facing congestion, and this could affect later flights too.
Even though the weather created many problems, DIAL assured passengers that its teams were working with all partners to offer smooth service. In a statement at 8.20 am, the airport operator said, "Our on-ground teams are diligently working with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience."
This situation shows how bad weather can quickly affect important services like air travel. However, with everyone's efforts, especially the airport teams and airlines, the city hopes to return to normal operations soon. It also highlights the need for strong planning and teamwork in times of such challenges.
