Cyclone Michuang Update: Indian Railways Cancels 54 Trains, Red Alert for Many Districts

The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday intensified into a cyclonic storm 'Michaung' and is likely to cross the South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam during the forenoon of December 5 as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

At least 10 coastal districts along Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha will be affected by cyclone "Michaung" over the next three days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a "red" alert ahead of extremely heavy rainfall (200-250 mm in 24 hours) and squally weather over Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, Godavari, Bapatla, and Elur districts of north Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

On Sunday, the cyclone developed over the southwest Bay of Bengal. According to the 5.30 pm observations, it was located 290 km east-southeast of Puducherry, 210 km east-southeast of Chennai, 330 km southeast of Nellore, 440 km south-southeast of Bapatla, and 450 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam.

Taking preventive measures, the Indian Railways on Monday canceled 54 trains to ensure the safety of passengers. Notably, these trains have been canceled by the East Coast Railway (ECoR). These canceled trains include express, mail, passenger, and special trains originating from, terminating at, or passing through East Coast Railway (ECoR) jurisdiction. The Indian Railways said the cancellations will be in effect from December 2 to December 7, 2023. Passengers are advised to check the train running status before embarking on their journey.

1. Train No. 03357 Barauni-Coimbatore Weekly Express Special (via Ranchi) journey starting on December 2 will remain canceled.

2. Train No. 03358 Coimbatore-Barauni Weekly Express Special (Via Ranchi) journey starting on December 6 will remain canceled.

3. Train No. 13351 Dhanbad-Allapuzha Express journey starting on December 3 and journey starting on December 4 will remain canceled.

4. Train No. 13352 Allapuzha-Dhanbad Express journey starting on December 6 and journey starting on December 7, 2023, will remain canceled.
