Chennai Trains to be Affected: Southern Railway has Announced Nine Express Services will be Short-Terminated

Passengers travelling to and from Chennai Egmore railway station will face temporary changes in train services between August 5 and August 20 due to the ongoing redevelopment of the station. Southern Railway has announced that nine express trains will either originate from or terminate at Tambaram or Mambalam instead of Chennai Egmore to facilitate construction work. Two special trains will also be diverted from their usual route.

Chennai Trains to be Affected from 5 August

The following trains will be affected:

• Train No. 22623 Madurai-Chennai Egmore Superfast Express will terminate at Tambaram instead of Chennai Egmore.

• Train No. 22624 Chennai Egmore-Madurai Superfast Express will originate from Tambaram.

• Train No. 16127 Chennai Egmore-Guruvayur Express will start from Tambaram.

• Train No. 16128 Guruvayur-Chennai Egmore Express will terminate at Tambaram.

• Train No. 20605 Chennai Egmore-Tiruchendur Vande Bharat Express will depart from Tambaram.

• Train No. 20606 Tiruchendur-Chennai Egmore Vande Bharat Express will terminate at Tambaram.

• Train No. 16751 Chennai Egmore-Rameswaram Express will originate from Mambalam.

• Train No. 16752 Rameswaram-Chennai Egmore Express will terminate at Mambalam.

• Train No. 16175 Chennai Egmore-Karaikal Express will originate from Tambaram.

In addition, the Ahmedabad-Tiruchirappalli Weekly Special Express and the Tiruchirappalli-Ahmedabad Weekly Special Express will be diverted from their normal route during the redevelopment work.

Southern Railway has also announced changes to suburban services. Three late-night EMU trains from Chennai Beach to Tambaram, scheduled to leave at 11.20 pm, 11.40 pm and 11.59 pm, will remain fully cancelled. Two EMU services from Tambaram to Chennai Beach, departing at 11 pm and 11.40 pm, have also been cancelled. Additionally, three Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu EMU services will be partially cancelled between Chennai Beach and Tambaram.

Advisory for Passengers

The temporary changes are part of the Chennai Egmore station redevelopment project, which aims to modernise passenger facilities and improve infrastructure. Southern Railway has advised passengers to check the revised train schedules before travelling and plan their journeys accordingly.
