Southern Railway has announced a pair of special trains between Dr MGR Chennai Central and Podanur to reduce overcrowding on regular trains and provide more travel options for passengers travelling between Chennai and western Tamil Nadu.

Chennai-Podanur Special Train
Train No. 06027 Dr MGR Chennai Central-Podanur Special will operate every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from July 3 to August 2. The train will leave Dr MGR Chennai Central at 6:35 p.m. and reach Podanur at 4:00 a.m. the next day.
In the return direction, Train No. 06028 Podanur-Dr MGR Chennai Central Special will also run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from July 3 to August 2. It will depart Podanur at 7:40 a.m. and arrive at Dr MGR Chennai Central at 4:45 p.m. on the same day. In total, each train will complete 15 trips during this period.
Important Stoppages & Train Features
The special trains will stop at several important stations, including Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Morappur, Jolarpettai, Katpadi and Arakkonam, making the service convenient for passengers travelling to different parts of Tamil Nadu.
The trains will have a combination of AC Chair Car, Chair Car, General Second Class, and Divyangjan-friendly General Second Class coaches, providing comfortable and affordable travel options for every passenger. The special services are expected to benefit office-goers, students, families, and tourists travelling during weekends and the holiday season.

Southern Railway has advised passengers to book their tickets early, as demand is expected to be high. Travellers are also encouraged to check the latest train timings and seat availability before starting their journey. The operation of these special trains is expected to improve passenger convenience, reduce waiting lists, and provide smoother travel between Chennai and Podanur during the peak travel period.
