According to CMRL, the 8-km stretch will begin functioning by late December and will help reduce congestion in key parts of Chennai. This section will include 10 stations. More expansion plans for the corridor are expected to be revealed in the coming months.

Rejection of Tamil Nadu's Proposal
Meanwhile, the central government recently rejected Tamil Nadu's proposal to introduce metro services in Coimbatore and Madurai. The Centre cited low population numbers based on the 2011 Census as the reason. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting his intervention. In his letter, he asked for a meeting to explain the issue, arguing that the population criterion of two million was not applied equally in cities like Agra, Patna, and Indore, which have received metro approval.
