Chennai Metro Phase II
The Phase II Metro project covers a total distance of 118.9 km. Out of this, a 14.6-km stretch from Poonamallee to Vadapalani via Porur along Arcot Road is almost ready for launch. The section between Poonamallee and Porur has already received final approval and is ready to open. Meanwhile, work required by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety has also been completed on the Porur-Vadapalani stretch.
Submission of Documents
Officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited said they have submitted all necessary documents again, showing that they have followed the CMRS instructions. They expect that CMRS officials may inspect the Porur-Vadapalani section by the end of next week. If everything goes well, approval for this stretch could be granted within a couple of days after the inspection.
Chennai Metro's Services
CMRL has also requested some changes to improve services, including train speed on the Porur-Vadapalani stretch from 25 km/h to 40 km/h. It has also asked to reduce the waiting time between trains on the Poonamallee-Porur section from 15 minutes to 10 minutes. These changes would make travel easier, especially during busy hours. Officials believe that since all necessary work has been completed, these restrictions may soon be removed, making the Metro more convenient for passengers.
