In a move aimed at ensuring the safe return of fans after late-night matches, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has decided to extend its metro services beyond the usual 11 pm deadline. Now, fans attending matches at the Chepauk Stadium can breathe easy as the metro will operate till 1 am.
The announcement came through a post on social media, highlighting the upcoming IPL match at Chepauk Stadium scheduled for March 26, 2024, at 7:30 pm. This extension in metro timings is specifically intended to accommodate fans attending the exciting clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT), as reported by Times Now.
With the anticipation of a surge in fans post-match, CMRL advises supporters to plan their journey home in advance. They're encouraged to purchase return or round-trip tickets beforehand, either online or at ticket counters, to avoid long queues at stations. To provide further assistance, CMRL has established assistance centers at Government Estate Metro and Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.Ramachandran Central Metro Station.
For the convenience of passengers, single journey tickets are available at flat rates of Rs 40 and Rs 50, respectively, allowing exit at any station within the metro network.
As for the operational details, train services will commence from Government Estate Metro Station towards Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.Ramachandran Central Metro Station. Commuters can interchange to the Green Line (towards Anna Nagar, Koyambedu) at the latter station only, as per instructions from metro authorities.
