The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to host an air show at Marina Beach in Chennai on Sunday, 6 October 2024. The event will begin at 11:00 am. In preparation, the Chennai Traffic Police have issued a travel advisory urging the public to plan their journeys to ensure a seamless experience.
"As the Indian Air Force (IAF) prepares to host a spectacular air show on 06.10.2024 at Marina Beach, The Greater Chennai Traffic Police urges the public to plan their travel accordingly to ensure a smooth experience," reads the advisory. It suggests using Metro and Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) services to avoid traffic congestion and reach the venue comfortably.
Travel Recommendations for Attendees
To secure a good viewing spot and enjoy the pre-show atmosphere, attendees are advised to arrive early at the venue. The theme for this year's air show is "Bhartiya Vayu Sena - Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar" (Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant). This theme reflects the strength and self-reliance of the IAF.
Group Captain Supandeep Singh mentioned that around 10-12 lakh people are expected to attend this aerial display in Chennai. He highlighted that this is the first such event in Chennai after two decades. The flypast will feature 22 different types of aircraft, commemorating the IAF's 92nd anniversary.
Aerial Display Highlights
Air Officer Commander Rathish Kumar VM stated that spectators can view the flypast from beaches stretching from Kovalam to Marina. The main aerobatics involving Tejas, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and Surya Kiran will take place at Marina Beach.
The IAF will demonstrate its aerial capabilities with Rafales, Sukhois, and Tejas jets. Additionally, members of the elite Akash Ganga skydiving team will perform jumps from significant heights. The Suryakiran Aerobatic Team will captivate audiences with precise formations and synchronised manoeuvres.
The Sarang Helicopter Display Team will also showcase its signature aerial choreography during this event. This air show promises an exciting display of skill and precision by various teams and aircraft.
