School Closures in Chennai on Wednesday

Heavy rain is also expected in parts of Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur districts. On Wednesday, schools in Chennai were closed due to the bad weather, and many colleges were given holidays. Although there is no official notice regarding school closures on Thursday, several areas will face a power outage due to excessive rainfall. The Dharmapuri district administration has also announced that schools will remain closed on Thursday as a precaution.

Cyclone Alert on Tamil Nadu's Coast

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a cyclone alert and predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of the state. According to the IMD, a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, near the Tamil Nadu coast, is likely to weaken in the next 24 hours.

In Chennai, the Water Resources Department announced that excess water would be released from three major reservoirs as they were nearing full capacity. The continuous downpour has caused a rapid rise in water levels across the region. The Mettur Dam, Tamil Nadu's largest reservoir, has now reached its maximum capacity due to the ongoing rains.

Advisory for Local Residents

Authorities have urged residents to stay careful, avoid flooded areas, and follow official advisories. Disaster management teams are on alert to handle any emergencies that may arise due to the heavy rainfall. The administration continues to monitor the situation closely as more rain is expected in the coming days.
