Breathing Easier: Delhi Records Cleanest Air Since 2018, Check Weather Forecast

Delhi recorded its cleanest air in six years, with an AQI of 53, indicating a satisfactory level. This improvement is attributed to the recent heavy monsoon rains, according to CAQM data.

Delhi experienced its cleanest air in six years from January to August 8, according to the for Air Quality Management (CAQM The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 53 on Thursday, categorised as satisfactory. This improvement follows recent heavy rains during the monsoon season.

Delhi's Cleanest Air in Six Years

CAQM data revealed that Delhi recorded its cleanest air for any day between January 1 and August 8 over the past six years. "The lowest ever daily avg. AQI of Delhi on any day during 01st January - 08th August for the period 2018-2024 (barring Covid affected 2020) was logged today i.e. 53," CAQM posted on X.

An AQI between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory, while values from 101 to 200 are moderate, and from 201 to 300 are poor. Levels between 301 and 400 are very poor, and anything above that is severe, according to CPCB standards.

Impact of Recent Rainfall

Light rain lashed parts of Delhi and the national capital region on Thursday, bringing some relief from the heat. The maximum temperature settled at a normal seasonal level of 34.1 degrees Celsius, as per IMD reports. However, traffic was disrupted in several areas due to waterlogging and uprooted trees.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) received numerous complaints related to waterlogging and tree uprooting following the rain. Specifically, there were 18 complaints about waterlogging and 16 regarding uprooted trees.

Weather Forecast

The IMD forecasted a generally cloudy sky with light rain for Friday. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum could settle at approximately 26 degrees Celsius.

Air quality beyond moderate levels can cause breathing discomfort for people with lung diseases, asthma, and heart conditions. Therefore, maintaining satisfactory air quality is crucial for public health.

The recent weather patterns have contributed significantly to improving Delhi's air quality. Continued monitoring and appropriate measures will be essential to sustain these improvements in the future.
