Bihar's Muzaffarpur to Get Metro Rail With 2 Corridors; Check all the Routes and Stations

The Urban Development and Housing Department has given its initial approval to the Muzaffarpur Metro Rail Project. This is a big step forward to improve public transport in Muzaffarpur. Once finalized, the project will go through further revisions before receiving final approval from the government. The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) are expected to be completed by April 2024, offering hope for a more modern and efficient transportation system in the city.

The Muzaffarpur Metro Rail Project has been planned by the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES). It will cover a total of 21.2 kilometres across two major corridors. The first corridor will be 13.85 km long, connecting Harpur Bakhri to Ramdayalu Nagar and will include 13 stations. The second corridor, covering 7.40 km, will link Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) to Muzaffarpur Junction, with seven stations along the route.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 5,359 crore, and it aims to serve nearly 60% of the city's commuters. The metro system will offer a faster, smoother, and more convenient travel option for the residents of Muzaffarpur.

Metro Routes and Stations

The two corridors are planned carefully to benefit important areas in Muzaffarpur:

- First Corridor: From Harpur Bakhri to Ramdayalu Nagar, passing through key locations such as Harpur Lahri, Sipahpur, Ahiyapur, Zero Mile Chowk, and other busy areas.

- Second Corridor: From SKMCH to Muzaffarpur Junction, covering places like Shahbazpur, Sheikhpur, and Akharaghat.

Benefits of the Metro Project

The Muzaffarpur Metro will help in:

1. Reducing traffic congestion across the city.
2. Improving connectivity between important locations.
3. Providing a modern and efficient public transport system for daily commuters.

The project has already received input from public representatives, urban planners, and other local stakeholders. During a meeting held at Nagar Bhawan, residents suggested extending the metro to nearby areas like Turki and Mushahari block. These discussions highlight the growing demand for better transport solutions in Muzaffarpur.

What's Next?

As the DPRs are being finalized, more refinements may be made to ensure the metro project meets the city's needs. This significant step reflects the city's progress towards an advanced public transport system.

The Muzaffarpur Metro Rail Project is set to transform urban travel for residents. With its well-planned routes and promise of better connectivity, the project will bring much-needed relief to daily commuters. As the city awaits final approval, the project stands as a symbol of growth and modern development in Muzaffarpur.
