Residents of Bhopal will experience planned power disruptions on May 5, 2026, as part of scheduled maintenance and infrastructure work. The shutdown has been announced by the local electricity department to facilitate line maintenance, supervision shifting, and DTR (distribution transformer) charging work across multiple zones.
The outages will take place at different intervals throughout the day, largely between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, affecting residential colonies, institutional areas, and key localities. In most areas, the power cut duration is expected to range between two to five hours.
Areas Affected and Timings
A wide range of localities across Bhopal will be impacted by the maintenance shutdown. Some of the major affected zones include:
- 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM: Sarvadharma A & B Sector, Shalimar Garden, Shalimar Park and adjoining areas
- 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon: Fish Market, Itwara, Islamnagar and nearby localities
- 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM: ISBT area, 6 No. Shed, Kasturba Nagar (A & B Sector), Palakmati Park, Kotra, Brajesh Nagar and surrounding pockets
- 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM: Rajendra Nagar, Karariya, Harsiddhi Campus, Dwarka Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Semra, Khejra, Bhanpur, Kolua, Damkheda, Khushipura and nearby regions
- 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM: C.I. Colony and adjoining areas
- 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM: Firdosh Nagar, Sheetla Nagar, Nishatpura, Srinagar Colony, Sardar Nagar, Nariyalkheda and surrounding areas
Additional localities such as Patel Nagar, Kolar, and Bagsewaniya, along with MIG and LIG residential sectors, are also expected to witness temporary power interruptions during the day.
Reason Behind the Power Cut
The electricity department has clarified that the outage is part of routine but essential maintenance work aimed at strengthening power infrastructure. Activities include:
- Line maintenance and repairs
- Load shifting and supervision work
- RDSS-linked DTR charging
Such upgrades are carried out periodically to reduce technical faults, improve supply reliability, and ensure long-term stability of the distribution network.
