Bengaluru's Double-Decker Flyover Opens to Ease CSB Junction Traffic

The much-awaited Bengaluru double-decker flyover has officially opened today. This new infrastructure is a significant step towards easing the traffic congestion that has long plagued the Central Silk Board (CSB) junction. Here are the key details about the flyover and its expected impact on Bengaluru's traffic.

Bengaluru s Double-Decker Flyover

The 3.36-km flyover stretches from Ragigudda to the Central Silk Board (CSB) junction. It features a unique design with an elevated Metro corridor on the upper deck and an elevated road for vehicular traffic on the lower deck. This structure aims to separate the flow of Metro trains and vehicles, leading to a smoother travel experience for everyone.

The flyover was inaugurated today by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, along with the Transport Minister and local MLAs. Their presence marked the importance of this project for Bengaluru's development and its potential to transform daily commutes for thousands of residents.

Various ramps are included in the flyover to connect different areas, such as Hosur Road, HSR Layout, and more. This design is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters. Although the exact time savings may vary depending on traffic conditions, the new infrastructure is aimed at easing congestion at the notorious CSB junction. With separate decks for metro and vehicular traffic, a smoother flow is anticipated, benefiting daily travelers.

The flyover is expected to be fully operational by next year. It includes strategic provisions such as U-turns at three points and access to key metro stations like Jayadeva, BTM Layout, and the elevated Silk Board Junction, which will soon be the highest metro station in the country. This will make commuting more efficient and less time-consuming for everyone.

Construction of the flyover started in 2019, with an initial completion target of 2021. However, various delays pushed the inauguration back by three years. Currently, traffic will flow in one direction without signals, promising travel times of 5-10 minutes across the elevated road. However, the full benefits, including the integration of driverless metro trains by the end of the year, await the completion of ongoing ramps and infrastructure enhancements scheduled for 2025.

The flyover is expected to handle daily traffic of over 46,000 vehicles, including 24,000 cars and heavy vehicles. This means substantial time savings and smoother transit experiences, particularly for commuters heading towards Electronic City, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout.

The project includes five ramps. Ramps A, B, and C are already facilitating connectivity to Ragigudda, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout. Ramp D, currently under construction, will traverse over the metro line, while Ramp E will provide a downward link from HSR Layout to BTM Layout upon completion.

The opening of the Bengaluru double-decker flyover marks a significant improvement in the city's infrastructure. It promises to make commuting easier and faster, benefiting thousands of residents and reducing the stress of daily travel. With the flyover in place, Bengaluru is taking a major step towards becoming a more commuter-friendly city.
