Bengaluru Yellow Line: New R.V. Road–Bommasandra Driverless Metro to Cover 16 Stations

Bengaluru is getting ready for a big improvement in public transport. The new R. V. Road-Bommasandra metro route, also called the Yellow Line, is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of May. This new metro line will help thousands of software employees and daily commuters by making travel easier in the busy city.

Bengaluru s Yellow Line Metro to Start

Yellow Line to Cover 16 Stations

The Yellow Line is 18.8 kilometers long and includes 16 stations. Once fully operational, it will offer faster and more convenient travel in south Bengaluru. Trial runs on this route have already started, showing that the work is nearly complete.

Services to Begin with Limited Stations

Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that initially, metro services will be available at six important stations. These are R. V. Road, Jayadeva, Silkboard, Infosys, Hebbagodi, and Bommasandra. The first phase will have three trains, each with six coaches, and a train will arrive every 20 minutes. This plan will help cover key areas until more trains are available.

Shortage of Trains a Major Challenge

At present, only two trains are available for the Yellow Line. A third train is expected to arrive in Bengaluru by April 25. With this, BMRCL can start limited operations after getting approval from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CMRS). According to officials, the Yellow Line needs 15 trains (a total of 90 coaches) for full services to begin.

More Coaches to Arrive Soon

Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar confirmed that the services will start by the end of May. Another coach from Titagarh Rail System Limited (TRSL) in Kolkata will reach Bengaluru by May 15. After inspection and safety checks, more services will start. A fourth train is expected by June or July, which will improve frequency and cover more stations.

To solve the shortage of coaches, BMRCL has also signed an agreement with a Chinese company to build more trains in partnership with Titagarh in West Bengal. BMRCL Managing Director M. Maheshwar Rao said, "Commercial traffic will start on the Yellow Line by the end of May. A letter will be written to the Commissioner of Railway Safety for the review of this line."

The Yellow Line will also bring some exciting new features. It will have the city's first double-decker flyover for metro trains and will introduce driverless metro trains for the first time in Bengaluru. This shows how modern technology is being used to improve the city's public transport system.

The Yellow Line will also connect to the Green and Pink metro lines, making travel smoother and better connected across Bengaluru.
