Bengaluru To Add South Asia's Tallest 250 Metres Skydeck To Its Attractions

The Karnataka cabinet has approved a ₹250 crore project for South Asia's tallest Skydeck in Bengaluru, standing at 250 metres. This initiative aims to boost tourism and infrastructure in the region, enhancing its appeal to visitors heading towards Mysuru and Kodagu.

Bengaluru is set to host South Asia's tallest Skydeck, standing at 250 metres. Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil confirmed the state cabinet's approval for this ₹250 crore project on August 23, as reported by ANI.

Last month, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar revealed that opposition leaders had agreed to establish the Skydeck near NICE Road. "The opposition leaders and MLAs representing Bengaluru have given the go-ahead for the 250-metre Skydeck to be set up near NICE Road on the outskirts of the city," he stated during a press conference.

Location Decided After Deliberation

The project will require 25 acres of land. Shivakumar mentioned that they had considered land near Kommaghatta and the Bengaluru University campus but decided against it due to potential impacts on students. "We had shortlisted about places for this project, but the Ministry of Aviation had reservations about those due to Skydeck's height. All elected representatives from Bengaluru, including Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, have agreed to the NICE Road location," he added.

Shivakumar explained that the land would come from NICE Road promoters. "R Ashoka said that as per the Supreme Court order, NICE is supposed to hand over about 200 acres to the government. Hence, NICE Road land has been finalised," he told reporters.

Infrastructure Projects in Focus

Karnataka's infrastructure plans include several significant projects. Patil detailed these initiatives: a sky deck costing ₹500 crore, an underground tunnel from Hebbal to Silk Board junction worth ₹12,690 crore, approval for 52 new Indira canteens in Bengaluru, and 592 Anganwadis at a cost of ₹50 crore.

When asked if the location was too far from the city, Shivakumar responded that all factors were considered before making this decision. "This location would be convenient for tourists as it is on the way to tourist destinations such as Mysuru and Kodagu. The connectivity will also improve once peripheral Ring Road comes is ready," he stated.

The tower will be built using government funds. Earlier, the state cabinet approved renaming Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South.

This ambitious project aims to enhance tourism and infrastructure in Bengaluru while providing a unique attraction for visitors heading towards Mysuru and Kodagu.
