To improve travel in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government has proposed a new tunnel road that will connect all highways entering the city. This plan is part of 12 big infrastructure projects that are waiting for approval from the central government. The proposal was discussed during a recent meeting between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.

The new tunnel road is planned to boost connectivity in Bengaluru, which is often called India's Silicon Valley due to its tech industry. The main idea is to link Mysuru Road (NH-275) and Hosur Road (NH 48 & NH 75) through Tumakuru Road (NH 48), Ballari Road (NH 44), and Old Madras Road (Old NH-4).
Focus on major tunnel connections
The state is giving special attention to two major tunnel road projects. These are the Hebbal to Silk Board corridor and the K.R. Puram to Mysuru Road (Nayandahalli) corridor. These two projects aim to solve the city's traffic problems and make travel easier for everyone.
The government has already started planning for a tunnel road project inside the city that is expected to cost around Rs 40,000 crore. This tunnel will connect the North-South and East-West parts of the city, helping commuters avoid long delays on the road.
More highway improvements requested
Apart from the tunnel project, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also asked for upgrades to state highways where traffic is heavy, with more than 10,000 passenger car units (PCU) daily. He has also requested approval for some socio-economic development projects in Karnataka that can benefit local people.
One of the other important projects being considered is the Pune-Bengaluru Greenfield expressway. The Chief Minister has asked the Union Minister for fast approval of this road to speed up work.
Other key developments
The state also hopes to build a tunnel in the Shiradi Ghat section on National Highway 75. This tunnel will improve road connectivity between Mangaluru port and Bengaluru, which is important for trade and transport.
There are also plans for nine grade separators on NH 275 in the Mysuru Ring Road and a new elevated corridor in Belagavi city along the Pune-Bengaluru NH 4 to reduce traffic jams.
These proposals show that Karnataka is serious about solving traffic issues and making travel easier for everyone. With better highways and tunnels, the government wants to support the city's growing needs and provide smoother journeys for residents and visitors.
