Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro to Start in May 2025, Driverless Trains Planned

Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, has announced a big step forward for Bengaluru's metro network. The Yellow Line of Namma Metro, running from RV Road to Bommasandra, is set to start operations in May 2025. This was shared during a state assembly session when Bommanahalli MLA M Satish Reddy raised a question about the metro's progress.

Bengaluru s Yellow Line Metro to Start

The 19.1-km-long Yellow Line is expected to make travel easier, especially for people commuting to and from the Electronics City, which is home to many IT companies. It will also help reduce traffic jams near the Central Silk Board, one of the most crowded areas in the city.

Progress on the Pink Line

Shivakumar also provided updates on another metro expansion, the Pink Line, which will run from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara. This line is 21.2 km long and includes both elevated and underground sections.

The elevated section, which is 7.5 km long, will be ready by December 2025. It will run from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere. The underground section, which stretches 13.7 km from Dairy Circle to Nagawara, will take more time and is expected to be completed by December 2026.

This expansion of the metro network will provide better public transport options for people living and working in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru to Get Driverless Metro Trains

A major upgrade to Bengaluru's metro system is the introduction of driverless trains. These new trains will first be used on the Yellow Line. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has already inspected the system, but final approval from the Railway Ministry is still needed.

The introduction of driverless trains will make metro travel smoother and more efficient. While metro fares were recently increased, this new technology is expected to improve the commuting experience for passengers.

With the Yellow Line set to open in May 2025 and the Pink Line following in the coming years, Bengaluru's public transport system is undergoing a big transformation. The metro expansion will help reduce traffic congestion and provide better connectivity, especially to important areas like Electronics City.

The addition of driverless trains is also a sign that the city is moving towards modern and advanced transport solutions. These changes will make commuting in Bengaluru more convenient and comfortable for residents.
