Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Tuesday that Electronics City in Bengaluru will be renamed after the late former chief minister D Devaraj. This declaration was made during the 109th birth anniversary celebration of Urs, organised by the Department of Backward Classes Welfare.

Renaming Electronics City
Siddaramaiah revealed that Electronics City would henceforth be known as 'Devaraj Urs Electronic City’. He stated, "In recognition of Devaraj Urs' contributions, he should be awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously and we will recommend his name to the Union government."
During the event, the D Devaraj Urs award for 2024 was presented to S K Kanta, a former labour minister and social activist from Kalaburagi. Kanta expressed his gratitude upon receiving the award and pledged to donate the Rs 5 lakh prize money for the welfare of labourers in the unorganised sector.
Kanta said, "I will donate this award money for the welfare of labourers in the unorganised sector." His commitment to social causes has been widely recognised and appreciated.
The renaming of Electronics City is seen as a tribute to D Devaraj Urs' significant contributions to society. Siddaramaiah's announcement has garnered attention and sparked discussions about honouring past leaders who have made impactful changes.
