The Electronics City flyover in Bengaluru will remain closed for all traffic from 11 pm to 6 am indefinitely, starting today. This decision has been made by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to carry out essential maintenance work on the flyover. The Bengaluru South Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Shivaprakash Devaraju, confirmed the closure, which will affect vehicles traveling in both directions between Silk Board and Electronics City during the specified hours.

Importance of Maintenance Work
The NHAI has undertaken this maintenance work to ensure the flyover remains strong and safe for daily commuters. The Electronics City flyover, which stretches 9.9 km from the Central Silk Board Junction to Electronics City, was opened in 2010 to provide a smooth and fast commute to the IT hub. Many major companies, including Infosys and Biocon, rely on this flyover to reduce travel time for their employees. While the maintenance will be conducted overnight, the flyover will remain open from 6 am to 11 pm for regular traffic.
Impact on Commuters
The closure is likely to cause inconvenience to local commuters, especially IT professionals who depend on the flyover for quick travel. In the past, the flyover has seen flooding, forcing tech workers to walk home when their cabs got stuck. This highlights how crucial the flyover is for thousands of daily travelers. The maintenance work also shows the difficulties in managing Bengaluru's heavy traffic, especially on major routes like the Hosur Main Road Elevated Flyover.
Metro Delays Add to Traffic Woes
The Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line, which is expected to connect RV Road to Bommasandra, was supposed to reduce traffic congestion on Hosur Road. However, its completion has been delayed beyond the initial deadline of December 2021 due to problems in getting new trains. Until the metro line is operational, commuters will have to rely on alternative routes during the flyover's closure.
Planning Ahead for Travel
For those affected by the nighttime closure, staying informed about traffic updates and finding alternate routes will be essential. The Bengaluru Traffic Police and NHAI are expected to provide further details as the maintenance work continues. Residents and commuters should plan their travel times carefully and remain patient while these improvements are made.
The overnight closure of the Electronics City flyover is part of an effort to maintain Bengaluru's transport infrastructure. While it may cause temporary travel disruptions, the work is necessary to keep the flyover safe and efficient in the long run. Travelers are advised to adjust their plans accordingly and stay updated on any new developments regarding the flyover's reopening.
