southern interior have seen especially heavy rainfall.

Light to Moderate Rainfall in Karnataka

The Meteorological Department has said that light to moderate rain is likely in many areas of the southern and northern interiors and the coastal regions over the next two days, along with a chance of thunderstorms in some places.

Dry Weather Conditions in Parts of Karnataka

However, while the interior regions are experiencing rain, some coastal districts are still facing dry weather. More specifically, Dakshina Kannada has not received any rainfall. Due to showers in the southern interior districts, temperatures have dropped slightly, making the weather more pleasant. Weather officials have also mentioned that similar rainfall or moderate showers may continue in parts of the interior for the next five days.

List of Districts to Experience Rainfall

Rain is expected in districts such as Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Tumakuru, and Ramanagara. Winds may blow at 30-40 km/h during rainfall, so people are advised to be careful.

In the northern interior region, districts including Belagavi, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, and Kalaburagi may also experience moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Coastal areas, including Uttara Kannada and Udupi, may get some rain, but Dakshina Kannada is likely to remain dry.

Reason Behind Rainfall & Thunderstorms

The rain is mainly caused by a weather system extending from South Tamil Nadu through Marathwada and interior Karnataka. It is the result of the combination of Easterly winds and air pressure; however, this system is creating suitable conditions for rain and cloudy weather. Although earlier cyclonic systems have weakened, current conditions still support thunderstorms in many parts of the state.
