Bengaluru's much-awaited Namma Metro Phase 2A project is moving closer to the testing stage, with train trials expected to begin from October. However, work on the road flyover at the busy Silk Board junction is still behind schedule, which could delay the project's overall completion.

Bengaluru Metro's Phase 2A
Phase 2A is part of the city's upcoming Blue Line and will connect Central Silk Board with KR Puram along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The corridor is designed to improve public transport connectivity through some of Bengaluru's busiest areas, including HSR Layout, Agara, Bellandur, Kadubeesanahalli, Marathahalli and Mahadevapura. The Phase 2A section has 13 stations and is around 18 km long.
According to the latest update, metro infrastructure work is progressing, and authorities are preparing to conduct trial runs once the tracks and other systems are ready. Trial runs are an important step as they allow engineers to check the tracks, signalling, electrical systems and trains before the line opens to passengers.
Namma Metro's Phase 2A Project Inclusion
However, the Silk Board flyover and ramp works remain a major concern. The Phase 2A project includes loops and ramps at the Central Silk Board junction, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and make the junction more signal-free. The project includes around 3.24 km of ramps and flyover-related structures.
The Silk Board junction is one of Bengaluru's busiest traffic points, making the completion of these structures important for both metro operations and road traffic management.
Phase 2A was planned as an elevated metro corridor with 13 stations between Central Silk Board and KR Puram. The line will eventually become part of the larger Blue Line connecting Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport.
While the October trials could mark an important milestone, passengers may have to wait longer for the full corridor to become operational, depending on construction progress and the completion of pending works.
