The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of Kerala over the next five days. The weather department has issued rain alerts for different districts, warning people to remain cautious as monsoon activity continues across the state.

Kerala Rain Alert on 19 August
According to the forecast, many areas may receive isolated spells of heavy rain. Heavy rainfall is generally considered rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours, while very heavy rainfall is defined as 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours. Some areas may also experience thunderstorms and strong winds along with the rain.
The rainfall is expected to affect different parts of Kerala on different days on August 19. A yellow alert has been issued for the northern districts of Kasargode and Kannur. Residents should keep checking the latest district-wise alerts as the weather situation can change quickly.
Advisory for Kerala Residents
People living in hilly areas, landslide-prone regions and low-lying areas have been advised to take extra precautions. Heavy rainfall can increase the risk of landslides, flash floods and waterlogging. Those living near rivers and other water bodies should also remain alert if water levels rise.
The authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Travelling to waterfalls, rivers and other water bodies can be dangerous when rain is heavy. People should also avoid crossing flooded roads or streams and should follow instructions issued by local authorities.
Strong winds and lightning may accompany some spells of rain. Residents are therefore advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid standing near trees, electric poles and other unsafe structures.
With more rain expected in the coming days, people across Kerala are advised to stay updated with official weather warnings and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
