The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is planning to extend the Namma Metro Yellow Line further south towards the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border. The proposed extension is expected to improve connectivity between Bengaluru and important areas near Hosur in Tamil Nadu.

Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line Extension
The Yellow Line currently connects RV Road with Bommasandra and provides metro access to several important parts of Bengaluru, including BTM Layout, Silk Board and Electronic City. The proposed extension would take the metro beyond Bommasandra towards Hosur.
Bengaluru Metro's New Stations
According to the plan, the extended corridor could have nine new stations. These stations are expected to serve residential areas, industrial zones and rapidly developing parts of the Bengaluru-Hosur region. The extension could also make daily travel easier for people who commute between the two states for work, business and other purposes.
How will this Proposed Metro Line Benefit Commuters of Bengaluru-Hosur Region?
The proposed route is particularly important because Hosur has grown into a major industrial and employment centre. Many people living in and around Bengaluru travel towards Hosur every day. A metro connection could provide a faster and more convenient alternative to road transport, especially on the busy Hosur Road corridor.
The extension is part of efforts to improve regional connectivity and expand Bengaluru's metro network beyond the existing city limits. However, the project still requires detailed planning, feasibility studies and approval before construction can begin.
Tamil Nadu had earlier sought an extension of the Yellow Line from Bommasandra to Hosur Railway Station. The Karnataka government had asked Tamil Nadu to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed extension.
If the project moves forward, the metro could create a direct public transport link between Bengaluru and Hosur, encouraging better economic connections between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu while reducing dependence on private vehicles and buses.
