Bengaluru Metro Changes Timings, Ticketing Options for New Year; MG Road Metro to Close Early

Bengaluru is preparing to welcome 2025 with grand celebrations, and authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and smooth transition into the New Year. With over 700,000 people expected to join the festivities, the city's police and metro services are implementing special measures to manage the crowds and make travel more convenient for all.

Bengaluru Metro Changes Timings

To maintain order and safety, Bengaluru police are ramping up security, especially in popular spots like Brigade Road and Church Street. Additional police personnel will be deployed to manage the crowds in these areas. The police have also announced plans to conduct drunk driving checks across the city on December 31, ensuring responsible celebrations.

Metro Extends Services

Bengaluru's Namma Metro is playing its part in easing the commute during New Year's Eve. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has extended metro services on both the Purple and Green Lines. Trains will operate until 2:00 AM on January 1, 2025, with the last train departing from Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Metro Station (Majestic) at 2:40 AM.

After 11:00 PM, trains will run at 10-minute intervals to handle the increased passenger flow. However, due to anticipated crowds, MG Road Metro Station will be closed for entry and exit from 11:00 PM. Passengers are advised to use nearby Trinity and Cubbon Park Metro Stations, which will remain open.

Ticketing Options

To simplify travel for the night, BMRCL has introduced return journey paper tickets priced at ₹50. These tickets will be available at all metro stations from 8:00 AM on December 31 and can be used after 11:00 PM from Trinity or Cubbon Park Metro Stations. Regular QR code tickets and cards will also be valid, giving passengers multiple options for hassle-free commuting.

Karnataka's Home Minister, G Parameshwara, has highlighted the extensive preparations made to ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year for everyone. The city's enhanced metro services and strengthened security measures aim to accommodate the massive turnout while prioritizing safety and convenience.

As Bengaluru prepares to ring in 2025, these thoughtful arrangements reflect the authorities' dedication to creating a festive yet secure environment. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to celebrating with peace of mind, knowing that their city is ready to welcome the New Year in style.
