Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway Traffic Rules Change After Deadly Crash, Two-Wheelers Banned

A terrible accident on the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway has led to an immediate ban on two-wheelers. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) made this decision after four people, including a two-year-old girl, lost their lives in a collision.

Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway Update

Deadly Crash Near Kolar

The accident happened near Kuppahalli in Bangarpet, in the Kolar district of Karnataka. An SUV crashed head-on into a motorcycle, causing a tragic loss of lives. The victims included Mahesh, 45, the driver of the SUV; Ratnamma, 60; little Udvitha, 2; and the unidentified rider of the two-wheeler.

Mahesh's family members-Sushmitha, Virutha, Sujatha, and Sunil-were also in the SUV. They suffered injuries and were taken to hospitals in Kolar Gold Fields for treatment. The family was traveling back to Kammasandra in KGF from Bengaluru when the accident took place.

Speeding Suspected as Cause

Police investigations suggest that speeding was the main cause of the accident. The front part of the SUV was completely damaged, showing the impact of the crash. A senior police officer stated, "We suspect rash driving and speeding are the primary causes. A forensic analysis of the vehicles and accident site will provide further clarity."

A detailed forensic examination will be done to confirm the exact reason for the crash.

Expressway Opened for Traffic Before Completion

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is 260 km long, stretching from Hoskote to Sriperumbudur, near Chennai. Though still under construction, a 71-km section in Karnataka was opened last month, allowing vehicles to use it. The expressway passes through Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.

Two-Wheeler Ban for Safety

To prevent further accidents, authorities have banned two-wheelers on the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway. A similar ban is already in place on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. The ban currently applies to the Karnataka section of the expressway but may be extended as other sections open.

The accident highlights the importance of following traffic rules and speed limits. The ban on two-wheelers is a step toward improving road safety and preventing future tragedies. As the expressway nears completion, authorities are taking strict measures to ensure safer travel for all road users.
