The Karnataka government has announced a major initiative to tackle the traffic congestion in Bengaluru. The plan involves constructing nearly 100 kilometers of signal-free corridors across 17 key locations in the city. These elevated corridors aim to make traffic flow more smoothly and convert important roads into more efficient routes. The total estimated cost of this ambitious project is around ₹12,000 crore.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar shared details about this initiative, which also includes a proposed tunnel road to further reduce traffic jams in the city. The project is part of a broader effort to improve transportation infrastructure and make daily commutes easier for residents.
The key locations for the signal-free corridors include several important routes in Bengaluru. One of the main corridors planned is a 23-kilometer stretch from K.R. Puram to Yeshwantpur-Goraguntepalya. This corridor is expected to significantly ease traffic on this busy route. Another important stretch is the 5.5-kilometer Hosur Road corridor from Anepalya to Silk Board, which is known for its heavy traffic.
Additionally, a 10-kilometer elevated corridor from Marenahalli to Kanakapura Road-Thalaghattapura NICE Road is planned. This corridor will help in reducing congestion on one of the main routes connecting different parts of the city. Another proposed project is a 2.7-kilometer elevated road from Minerva to Cubbon Park, which is expected to improve traffic flow in the central part of Bengaluru.
These signal-free corridors are expected to significantly reduce travel time for daily commuters. By easing congestion and streamlining traffic flow, these elevated routes will enhance connectivity across key areas of the city.
