Bengaluru, Belagavi, and Hubballi Among 7 Cities to Develop as Smart Cities in Karnataka; Check Details

The Smart Cities Mission, a flagship program of the Government of India, has brought significant changes to urban infrastructure and living standards in Karnataka. Seven cities in Karnataka were selected under this mission to improve urban development and provide better facilities to residents. As of now, most of the planned projects in these cities are either completed or nearing completion, according to a report presented in the Lok Sabha.

Current Status of Smart City Projects in Karnataka

In total, Karnataka has undertaken 908 projects under the Smart Cities Mission, with an estimated budget of ₹13,792 crore. Among these, 882 projects worth ₹13,381 crore have been successfully completed, while 26 projects amounting to ₹411 crore are still under implementation.

Notable Achievements in Mangaluru

In Mangaluru, 93 out of 105 projects have been completed, amounting to ₹2,429 crore. The remaining 12 projects, valued at ₹144 crore, are actively progressing. These projects include initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, transportation, public spaces, and digital services, making Mangaluru a key contributor to the Smart Cities Mission's success in Karnataka.

Funds and Utilization

The total funds released for these seven smart cities, including contributions from both the Government of India and the state government, stand at ₹6,817.76 crore. Of this, ₹6,338.22 crore has already been utilized effectively, demonstrating a strong commitment to achieving the mission's goals.

The Smart Cities Mission in Karnataka has achieved remarkable milestones, with most of the planned projects completed and ongoing work progressing steadily.
