Indian Railways has Announced a Special Monsoon Timetable for the Trains on Konkan Route

With the arrival of the monsoon season, Indian Railways has announced a special monsoon timetable for more than 100 trains running on the Konkan Railway route. The revised schedule will be in effect from June 15 to October 20. During this period, trains will operate at reduced speeds at several locations to ensure passenger safety in one of the country's most rain-affected railway corridors.

Konkan Route

The Konkan route passes through the hilly and coastal regions of Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, which often experience heavy rainfall during the monsoon. Because of risks such as waterlogging, landslides, track flooding, and poor visibility, speed restrictions are imposed every year as a precautionary measure.

Advisory for Passengers

Railway authorities have advised passengers who have already booked tickets on Konkan route trains to check the revised train schedules before travelling. The updated departure and arrival timings can be accessed through the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and the RailOne mobile application.

Indian Railway's Safety Measures for Trains on the Konkan Route

To prepare for the monsoon, Railways has carried out several safety and maintenance works across the network. Drains, culverts, and bridge waterways have been cleaned to improve water flow and prevent flooding. New drains and manholes have also been constructed at vulnerable locations to ensure smooth discharge of rainwater.
Additional high-capacity dewatering pumps have been installed in flood-prone areas, while spare pumps have been kept ready for emergencies. Flood gauges and Automated Digital Rain Gauges have been set up to monitor rainfall and water levels in real time. SCADA-based water level monitoring systems have also been installed on vulnerable bridges.

Railways have used drones and floating camera drones to inspect drains and culverts. Special machines were deployed for deep cleaning operations. Flood-prone areas have been identified, and corrective measures such as raising tracks and improving drainage have been completed.

Trees near railway tracks have been trimmed to prevent accidents during strong winds. Patrol teams, bridge guards, and watchmen have been deployed at sensitive locations. Rapid Response Teams are also ready to deal with landslides, waterlogging, and track damage.

Moreover, Railway control rooms are working closely with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to receive weather updates and take timely action, ensuring safe and smooth train operations throughout the monsoon season.
