The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made special arrangements for the annual Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, which will be held from June 22 to 25, 2026. Thousands of devotees are expected to visit the temple during the festival, leading to a large increase in passenger traffic.

Northeast Frontier Railway's Detailed Plan
To manage the expected rush, NFR has prepared a detailed plan that includes running special trains, adding extra coaches to regular trains, deploying additional staff and security personnel, and setting up help desks and enquiry counters at important railway stations.
Ambubachi Mela Special Trains
As part of these arrangements, NFR will operate three special unreserved train services with nearly 50 General Second Class coaches. These trains will connect Kamakhya with major destinations across Assam and North Bengal, making travel easier for pilgrims. Several regular passenger trains will also be strengthened with 11 additional General Second Class coaches during the mela period to accommodate more passengers.
Train No. 05661 Kamakhya-Alipurduar Junction one-way special train will leave Kamakhya on June 19 and reach Alipurduar the next day. In addition, special daily trains numbered 05444 and 05445 will run between Alipurduar and Kamakhya from June 20 to 22 and again from June 24 to 27.
For passengers travelling between New Jalpaiguri and Kamakhya, Train No. 05780 New Jalpaiguri-Kamakhya Special will operate on June 20 and 27, while Train No. 05779 Kamakhya-New Jalpaiguri Special will run on June 21 and 28.
Special Measures for Passengers
To help passengers, extra ticket counters will remain open 24 hours a day at Kamakhya and Guwahati railway stations. Special help desks and enquiry counters will also be available to guide devotees and provide travel-related information.
Security arrangements have also been strengthened. Additional staff from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and railway departments will be deployed at major stations. Around 200 volunteers from the NFR Bharat Scouts and Guides will assist passengers.
These measures are aimed at ensuring smooth travel, better crowd management, and a comfortable journey for devotees attending one of Northeast India's biggest religious festivals.
