The Ambubachi Mela is one of the most special and spiritual events in India. It will take place in 2025 from June 22 to June 26 at the famous Kamakhya Temple in Assam. Many people dream of visiting this temple at least once in their life. If you are planning to attend this festival, it's important to know why it is held and what to expect. This article will help you understand the significance of this event and how Assam is preparing to welcome lakhs of devotees.

A Festival That Celebrates Womanhood
Ambubachi Mela is not like other religious events. It honours the annual menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya, a powerful form of Shakti. While many places treat menstruation as impure, this temple embraces it as a symbol of fertility and cosmic energy. The temple is located on the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati and is considered one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India.
During the festival, the temple doors will close on June 22 to allow the goddess to rest during her period. Devotees are not allowed to enter the sanctum during this time. After the purification ritual called *Snan*, the temple will reopen on June 26. People still gather in large numbers around the temple during these days to pray and seek blessings.
Large Number of Visitors Expected
Assam's Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass has said that over 10 lakh devotees are expected to visit the temple during the Mela. Once the temple reopens, nearly 20 lakh more visitors are expected to arrive. To manage this huge crowd, the state government held a special meeting with 24 departments in Guwahati. A budget of Rs 5.4 crore has been set aside for things like sanitation, security, accommodation, and other arrangements.
Plans are also in place to create a volunteer cell with the help of non-political organisations. These volunteers will guide and help visitors so that their spiritual journey is smooth and safe.
Spiritual Hub of the Tantric Tradition
The Kamakhya Temple is just 7 km from Guwahati city and is a major centre for Tantric practices. Besides Ambubachi, the temple also celebrates other festivals like Durga Puja, Madandeul, Durgadeul, Manasa Puja, and Vasanti Puja throughout the year.
A Journey of Faith and Energy
Ambubachi Mela 2025 will offer a mix of faith, devotion, and spiritual energy. Pilgrims from across the country are invited by the Assam government to experience this powerful celebration. It is more than just a religious event-it is a way to connect with deep traditions that honour the power of the divine feminine.
